Let It Be Episode 12: Stuff

As someone who’s been an avid minimalist and ruthless de-clutterer my whole life, I’m always amazed and dismayed by just how much stuff I manage to accumulate. (This was particularly brought home to me the last time we moved house.)

Brooke, on the other hand, was your typical accumulator until she had the PND induced breakdown that put her feet on the simple living path. Since this is what she’s been writing about and teaching in workshops for the past few years, this is definitely her sweet spot.

Together we tackle the vexing issue of why we all have so much stuff, how this can be a problem and where to start when it comes to de-cluttering. (Top tip: Don’t start with your garage like Brooke and Ben did!)

  1. This one hit close to home; I would LOVE to declutter before my next move (aiming for a “forever” home by end of summer), but I think my husband has less of an interest in minimalist living. We already have eliminated adult gifting in my family, for all the reasons you gave, but getting rid of stuff may be as difficult for us as giving up sugar.

I’m planning to link this podcast in tonight’s blog post, which will then possibly get shared on Twitter and Facebook, so maybe my husband will listen at some point to understand what I’m hoping for. I don’t think I can explain it; your conversation was all the words I needed to hear for my own reinforcement.
