Straight and Curly 78: Should you ever work for free?

This episode of Straight and Curly was brought to you by Open Universities. Go to open.edu.au to check out the single module post graduate units they now offer!

In creative industries in particular, working for free to gain exposure and build relationships that allow you to ascend the career ladder faster goes with the territory. In other words, anyone who’s a successful creative has done it.

Which is why it frustrates Carly and I to hear successful creatives tell up and comers that they shouldn’t be working for free. Such a black and white approach to the topic is not useful, or realistic.

So – when SHOULD you work for free, and when are you actually being exploited? That’s the question we attempt to answer in this episode.

Want to come talk about it? Join our Straight and Curly group on Facebook? It’s free so what are you waiting for?!
